Jergene was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, and attended Jackson State College. She also attended Hawkeye Community College and the University of Northern Iowa where she earned a degree and license in Nursing. Jergene has worked in several medical settings in the Cedar Valley which include: a surgical unit, post-anesthesia care, acute medical unit, surgical step down unit and the College of Health at the University of Northern Iowa. During her tenure as a nurse she was an inductee of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Pi Kappa Chapter at Allen College of Nursing. Jergene is a community advocate spent time as a board member with the Young Women Christian Association and Visiting Nurses Association. She also facilitated the creation of the Jubilee Free Health Clinic and volunteered there as a nurse. Jergene enjoys gardening, flower design, interior and exterior design, brain teasers, adult coloring and reading non-fiction books.
